We get questions almost every week about how to get better sleep. Some people have difficulty falling asleep. Some go to sleep fine but wake up in a few hours and are up until dawn. Others toss and turn all night, never actually getting any peaceful rest. Sleep is a very important part of our health.
What do we recommend? There are a variety of methods for improving sleep.
(1) L-Tryptophan is a wonderful essential amino acid. Many people find that one or two 500mg capsules about 30 minutes before bedtime helps them get to sleep, and stay that way until the alarm sounds. It seems to work very well and there are no drowsy side effects. In addition, it is impossible to become addicted to a natural, essential amino acid.

(2) We've found that the herbal combination product called Relora Plex is very helpful in calming the adrenals and allowing a person to get some rest. This product is derived from magnolia and philodendron - plus a small amount of some B vitamins.

(3) Our latest discovery is a Sleep Mask. Yes, I know that these devices have been around almost forever, but we just found them. There are studies that show how important it is to sleep in total darkness - not just darkened, but total darkness. Defend yourself against Light Pollution.
LIGHT POLLUTION
My wife and I looked around our bedroom and found that even with the lights out we could easily see around the room. To make matters worse we had two night-lights burning - one in the hall and the other in the bathroom adjoining our bedroom. It was never totally dark.
We thought about getting new window coverings but that was costly. Instead, we chose to leave the windows alone and try using a sleep mask. It felt a little strange the first couple of nights, but we both slept well with our new masks. We still do.
This simple sleep aid has been around almost since people began having difficulty sleeping. I think it’s all too easy to discard the wisdom of the past in favor of the newest drug. If you have problems with sleep, do yourself a favor. Invest just a few dollars and buy a good sleep mask. You will be surprised.
