Echinacea is probably one of the most well known herbal supplements used to support the immune system. Most frequently, Echinacea is used to shorten the duration of a cold and lessen some of the cold related symptoms. Propolis is a resinous substance collected by bees from conifer buds and poplar, and is used to seal their hives. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study was carried out on the efficacy of a syrup (Chizukit), in the prevention of respiratory tract infections in children during a 12 week winter period. 215 children, ages 1-5, were given the syrup, and 215 were given a placebo. 328 children completed the study, 160 in the syrup group and 168 in the placebo group.
