I'm always
on the lookout for simple, safe products
that work well. I found one that is
particularly helpful for anyone who
suffers from recurring sinus allergies,
such as hay fever - perhaps sinus
infections as well. There are times
each year when I sneeze - a LOT. I have
found that our Sinus Buster products are
very helpful at slowing (and sometimes
eliminating) a sneezing attack. I'm
thankful to the Sinus Buster makers for
providing their wonderful pepper spray
products. But, I'd prefer to not
experience a sneezing attack at all. So,
when the information about this new
sinus washing system came to my
attention I ordered it right away.
If pollen
and dust can be responsible for a
sneezing attack, I figured that if I
could wash those irritants out of my
sinus area I'd have a better chance of
avoiding the attack. It seems that logic
is good. I started using this device
about two weeks ago (mid June 2007) and
I can report that I have not had an
allergy spell since. I usually
experienced them twice to three times a
week.
A few
years ago I tried a similar idea with a
mechanical device that forced cool water
vapor up into the sinus cavities. It
cost over $100 and it took at least 20
minutes per treatment. It was adequate
but the cost and time made it
impractical for most people. I couldn't
recommend it - even though it worked.
The
device I'm mentioning today does a very
good job, takes only a few short minutes
and costs just a little over $0.25 per
treatment - and has enough treatment
packets to last 50 days (at one
treatment per day).
The
NeilMed Sinus Rinse products are
available in most of the major pharmacy
chain stores. We stock both the Sinus
Rinse Kit (50 packets) and the Sinus
Rinse Bottle kit (5 packets) if you are
unable to find them locally. Replacement
packet kits are available. It is even
possible for a user to calculate the
amount of sodium chloride to add to a
240 mL bottle to achieve the proper
strength
(normal
saline is 0.9% sodium chloride; 0.9% of
240 mL is 2.16 Gm, approximately a
quarter teaspoonful - a little more or
less is not critical).
I really like this product and I do not
hesitate to recommend it.

Step 1
Fill up the clean bottle
with 8 oz. (240 mL.) of warm
distilled water or
previously boiled water. You
may warm the water it in a
microwave. We recommend that
you warm it in increments of
five seconds. This is to
avoid excessive heating of
water.
Step 2
Cut the
SINUS RINSE™
mixture packet and pour
contents into the bottle.
Secure the cap with tube on
the bottle. Shake the bottle
to dissolve the mixture.
Step 3
Standing in front of a sink,
bend forward to your comfort
level and tilt your head
down. Keeping mouth open and
without holding your breath,
apply cap snugly against
nasal passage and squeeze
the bottle gently until
solution drains from the
opposite nasal passage or
from the mouth. Also while
bending over the sink,
consider tilting head
sideways to help improve
drainage of any residual
rinse solution. Do not
swallow the solution. Gently
blow the nose. Do not block
the nasal passage completely
while blowing to avoid
pressure on the eardrum. If
tolerated, sniff in the
residual solution in the
nose once or twice prior to
blowing nose as this may
clean out the posterior
nasopharyngeal area that is
the area at the back side of
your nasal passage. Some
solution will reach the back
of the throat so please spit
it out.
Step 4
Now repeat the same
procedure on the other side.
Squeeze two to three times
in each nasal passage.
Step 5
Please use between 2 to 4
oz. (60 mL. to 120 mL.) for
each nasal passage. Discard
any unused solution and make
fresh solution for each
rinse.
Do this once or twice a day OR as
directed by your physician.
Warning: Do
not rinse if you have an ear infection,
blocked ear or severely blocked nasal
passage. Use lukewarm water. DO NOT USE
HOT OR BOILING WATER. Follow the
cleaning procedures provided in this
information leaflet. You could also
consider discussing the use of SINUS
RINSE™ with your doctor. SINUS RINSE™
bottle and mixture are to be used only
for nose washes. Do not use them for
other purposes. Patients on a restricted
sodium (common salt) diet due to heart
condition should be careful not to
swallow the solution during and after
the rinses.
We strongly
advise against the use of our kit on
children or adults who have reduced
mental abilities. Patients who are
unable to stand up and take a position
near the sink SHOULD NOT use this
product. We advise that you SHOULD NOT
use this kit on patients who are bed
bound or have chronic illnesses. Adults
need to understand the procedure and
only then use it for their children. We
recommend that you use this product only
on children who are more than six years
old. The procedure is the same for
children as well as adults. If your
child is less than six years old, you
should consult your child's physician
before using this product.
