(Tylan® is another name for this medication.)
Use: Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic that is used to treat certain types of chronic diarrhea in dogs and cats.
Side Effects: Some animals may have a mild stomach ache when first receiving tylosin and experience vomiting and an initial worsening of diarrhea.
Precautions: It is not known if tylosin can be used safely in pregnancy but there are no reports of adverse effects when used in pregnant animals.
Directions: Dogs and cats usually receive tylosin orally as a powder, liquid or capsule twice daily. If given as a liquid, solutions should be made fresh every 3 days.
Remember: Tylosin powder and capsules should be stored in a tight, light resistant, childproof container away from all children and other household pets.
If you miss a dose of this medication you should give it as soon as you remember it, but if it is within a few hours of the regularly scheduled dose, wait and give it at the regular time. Do not double a dose as this can be toxic to your pet.
