Use: Potassium Gluconate and Potassium Chloride are sources of supplemental POTASSIUM. They are used to treat or prevent potassium deficits.
Directions: Potassium Gluconate or Potassium Chloride may be dispensed as a capsule or a flavored liquid. Give it with meals or within 30 minutes after a meal to reduce stomach upset. Give only the amount ordered by the doctor. Do not increase the dose or the number of doses per day without direct advice from the doctor.
Side Effects: The major problem with potassium supplementation is hyperkalemia (high levels of potassium.) Symptoms include muscular weakness or stomach disturbances and heart conductivity problems.
Storage: Keep in the original container. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Capsules and tablets may be stored at room temperature. Some liquids should be stored in the refrigerator (see the prescription label.) Store all medicines away from excess heat and moisture. Do NOT store in the bathroom.
Note: If you miss a dose give it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give a double dose to make up for the missed one.
