What Is It?: Aluminum Hydroxide acts as an antacid and is most commonly used in the treatment of heartburn, gastritis, and peptic ulcer. This drug is also sometimes used to reduce absorption of phosphorus for people or animals with kidney failure. Aluminum hydroxide is found in a variety of antacids.
How To Use: This medicine can interact with food and other medicines. It is usually given on an EMPTY STOMACH – that’s one hour BEFORE a meal or two hours AFTER.
Possible Side Effects: This medication is generally well tolerated. Loss of appetite or constipation may occur. Notify your doctor if there is: vomiting coffee ground-like matter, dark/tar-like stools. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your veterinarian.
Storage: Keep in the original container. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Capsules and tablets may be stored at room temperature. Some liquids should be stored in the refrigerator (see the prescription label.) Store all medicines away from excess heat and moisture. Do NOT store in the bathroom.
Note: If you miss a dose give it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule.
Do not give a double dose to make up for the missed one.
