Too many people take too many drugs. Larry's Blog
Contrary to popular belief, I get sick.

Sometimes, it's pretty bad. Regardless, my personal goal is to BE healthy and avoid drugs, surgery, and radiation as much as I can. I follow the 80-20 Rule: eat healthy 80% of the time, but build in 20% for moderate indulgences. Research confirms that extremely rigid diets fail more often than balanced and flexible approaches to eating.

I am, however, rigid on one thing: No high fructose corn syrup, sodas, or artificially flavored drinks. Living this way doesn't make me immune to anything, but I think I have the strength and stamina to bounce back more quickly than I would if I was eating junk food and treating my body poorly.

Here's something that happened recently. One Tuesday morning I awoke feeling just fine. About thirty minutes later I had a pain - actually two pains. One was in my back and the other was low and in the front. I stayed home hoping it would get better with rest. It didn't and I called my wife to come home and take me to the hospital. That pain was so bad that I was actually shaking.

Ask Larry:

Question:
Is there such a thing as a homeopathic flu shot that does not have all the added chemicals and toxins? My daughter who is a junior in college volunteers in a hospital and next year they will require her to get a flu shot to continue volunteering. She does not want one. Does she have any alternatives?

Larry's Response: Sadly, flu shots are all the same. I don't think there is any alternative. Once Big Brother decides on a policy it is all but impossible to violate. As a health care worker - employed or volunteer - it is becoming the standard to demand vaccinations. The only two options are to lie about getting the required shot or find employment (or volunteer work) someplace that doesn't require them.
I'm writing this post in response to an article I was sent from my son, who was sent the article to see what I had to say about it. You can read it here. OR just read my post below.

I am wondering how Michael Byrne distinguishes between good and bad science - because that seems to be at the crux of his rant against supplements. The assumption seems to be that any research done that supports the use of supplements is bad and anything that supports mainstream medicine is good.

If that's true, how do we end up with drugs on the market that kill and have to be removed by the authorities?

Those drugs were approved based on the results of good science and foisted onto the public. It was there, after years of use (read: misuse) it was discovered that the good science actually missed some vital pieces, and the drug was actually bad instead of good. I presume those who suffered heart attacks as the result of their arthritis drugs are less upset because the drug was on the market based on good science.

Ask Larry:

Question: I notice round white spotted areas on my arms and legs that show up more after being in the sun. Lots of people seem to have this. A friend said it's a kind of fungus and thought putting Selsun shampoo on the skin while in the shower helped get rid of it.
Do you know what causes it and what gets rid of it?

My daughter asked me about an alternative to the regular chemical laden lawn fertilizers on the market, and the name I kept coming across was Milorganite. There seemed to be a bit of controversy about the product, so I did a bit of digging.

It might not be a big deal, but it seems reasonable to at least touch on this topic. Milorganite is a biosolids fertilizer produced by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District. The District captures wastewater from the metropolitan Milwaukee area, including local industries.
