Too many people take too many drugs. Larry's Blog

A Little Something to THINK ABOUT  ...  People over 35 should be dead !

Here's why ...

I presume that my readers expect that I will have something to say about the "new healthcare bill" that passed on March 22, 2010.

I have my opinions, as does just about everyone else. Unfortunately, like everyone else, I don't have much in the way of fact. That means my opinion is as valid as anyone's.

I am all in favor of discovering new approaches to health – and then using the vast resources of the drug companies and the government to offer new technology or health items to regular citizens. Yet the more I pay attention, the more I am convinced that there is a disconnect between discovering a new approach and just copying one that has been in use for decades.

I get particularly cranky when this new, government approved version costs ten times more than the original.

I’ve researched the positive and negative aspects of D-Phenylalanine and "re-discovered" some of the serious problems associated with this amino acid. Sure, phenylalanine is an important amino acid - for most of us. However, the dark side from taking excess supplements cannot be ignored.

Phenylalanine is an amino acid normally found in the brain. People with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria (PKU) cannot metabolize phenylalanine. This leads to dangerously high levels of phenylalanine in the brain (sometimes lethal). It has been shown that ingesting aspartame, especially along with carbohydrates, can lead to excess levels of phenylalanine in the brain even in persons who do not have PKU. Excess D-Phenylalanine is a cause of reduced serotonin levels.

I heard a brief report on the radio the other day. They cited a few statistics about drug use and mentioned that their information was extracted from a report published in 2008 by Medco.

Medco is one of the largest mail-order pharmacy providers in the United States. They have ready access to vast amounts of utilization data.
Here are just a few points from that report:
