Acupuncture could be the answer to many autoimmune diseases
Sticking long needles into your body doesn't seem like the appropriate way to relieve pain. In fact, it sounds like the way to cause pain. However, acupuncture is one of the oldest medical treatments in the history of the world and is one of the most reliable. Sure, many scoff at the idea of acupuncture because it seems to be an outdated eastern treatment in a forever changing and updated western medicine world.
This couldn't be further from the truth, however. According to a 1998 survey in the Archives of Internal Medicine, 43% of medical professionals are most likely to refer their patients for acupuncture than chiropractic procedures or massage therapy. The effects of the treatment is also staggering considering that according to the World Health Organization's 2002 Review of Randomized Controlled Acupuncture Trials, acupuncture is undoubtedly effective for 28 diseases and has been show to be somewhat effective in 63 diseases. This shows that not only is acupuncture a useful and helpful medical treatment but it could be the answer to many diseases that are prevalent in today's world. This is especially the case when it comes to dealing with autoimmune diseases.
Autoimmune disease occurs when the body's immune system attacks healthy tissue. This is a disease that includes disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that over 23 million Americans suffer from autoimmune disease and that number is rising everyday. This also plays into the number of different autoimmune diseases which rank as high as 80-100. These numbers show that autoimmune diseases are a major health problem that need solutions and treatment that many are saying could be the treatment of acupuncture.
Most autoimmune diseases occur when there is an imbalance in the body. Acupuncture is a treatment that helps to bring balance back to the body while helping to treat the main concern that is unique to every individual. This shows that acupuncture is a steady and useful medical technique for those who are suffering from autoimmune diseases and disorders. In fact, a study held by the Mayo Clinic found that fibromyalgia patients who received acupuncture had "significant improvement in pain levels, fatigue, and anxiety."
Acupuncture may be an old medical treatment but it has real life uses in today's world and can be an answer to the major health concern of autoimmune disease.
