Many liquid compounds are dispensed with an
"Adapta-Cap". It is a blue plastic screw-on
cap that has an attached flip-off cap.
Usually, this blue cap is attached to the
bottle before it is dispensed. However, if
we are sending your prescription in the mail
or by UPS the cap may be packed separately.
If the blue cap is NOT already attached
carefully remove the cap that is on the
bottle and set it aside. Then attach the
blue cap to the bottle. You may discard the
original cap and leave the blue Adapta-Cap
on the bottle until the prescription is
finished
Your prescription will also include an oral
syringe. The tip of this syringe fits inside
the center hole in the Adapta-Cap. To
withdraw a dose do the following;
Shake
the bottle well
Flip the
center protective cap off
Insert
the oral syringe tip into the opening
Hold the
syringe and the cap and invert (as
pictured above)
Gently
pull back on the barrel of the syringe
to the prescribed amount
Turn the
bottle right side up
Remove
the syringe and administer as instructed
Re-attach the flip top
If you
are administering the medication
directly into the patient's mouth you
will want to clean the syringe and put
aside to dry
If the syringe has not been contaminated in
any way it may be left IN the hole in the
top of the Adapta-Cap. The fitting is
sufficient to protect the contents of the
bottle. However, don't shake the bottle
without holding BOTH the bottle and the
syringe. The syringe may fall out and you'll
end up spilling the contents while shaking.
